DEF CON 23: Aerial Assault shows airborne network invader
Corporate security officers may soon have to concern themselves with an entirely new threat axis if network hacking drones, like the one Aerial Assault displayed at DEF CON 23 in Las Vegas, become common place.
David Jordan of Aerial Assault exhibited a drone equipped with sensors that can fly close enough to a target building in order to scan for unsecured networks. Jordan exhibited the spy drone at Def Con and is selling the unit for $2,500 each.
Once in place the drone probes for a network's weaknesses, uses GPS to locate a targets position and then fly back to its owner with the downloaded information, according to Phys.org.
