QUICK READ

  • Strengths: This is a solid product with a good feature set and good value.
  • Weaknesses: Slightly diminished performance in location and differentiation of wireless nodes and access points.
  • Verdict: For its ease of use and good value, we rate this Recommended.
AirMagnet Enterprise delivers active full-time protection against the entire spectrum of wireless threats, such as denial-of-service attacks, MAC (Media Access Control) spoofing, fragmentation attacks, as well as other types of wireless hacking and reconnaissance tools. Threats can be traced, located and blocked, and the results saved for forensic analysis.

AirMagnets’ patent-pending wired equivalent privacy (WEP) shielding provides additional protection for devices using WEP encryption as well. The product is capable of monitoring an organization’s WLAN enterprise to boost performance and identify problems at the source. This product also proactively alerts administrators to various types of performance problems, such as overloaded channels, mismatched devices, and radio frequency (RF) and other interference issues. AirMagnet Enterprise allows administrators to find and identify mission critical problems quickly and to correct them before damage is done to the network.

There is a quick summary of important events, scored and correlated according to the organization’s policies. Policy creation and enforcement rules are created easily and will keep your organization compliant under various regulations. A policy can be created for the entire WLAN, specific users, specific devices and even a specific VLAN within a single device.

The Enterprise came to us preconfigured, so it really was plug-and-play. Setup was straightforward, but the product did not see all of the access points and wireless nodes outside of our network. It did, however, pick out our rogue AP quickly.

The documentation for AirMagnet Enterprise is good and the company offers complete technical and online support for its products.

Priced starting at $8,995, this is a good value for the money. We especially like the one-year bundled full support package.
