QUICK READ

  • Strengths: Full-feature SDK with included examples and source code.
  • Weaknesses: None that we found.
  • Verdict: Solid interoperability product with lots of built-in features for development of biometric management programs.
The Bayometric Griaule Fingerprint SDK is not a physical product but a full development kit for software developers to incorporate biometrics into applications throughout the enterprise. Some of these applications can include authorization systems, transaction systems, time and attendance, point-of-sale identification, and physical access control. This allows companies to customize their own existing applications to incorporate biometrics as a means of authentication without having to buy new software or change existing infrastructure.

While we at SC Labs are not developers, we found this product to be easy to install and quite flexible - with the ability to use various programming languages through Dynamic Link Library (DLL), Java, ActiveX or .NET. We also found the inclusion of a ready-to-go example program with the source code included to provide a good starting point for a developer.

This product provides a very flexible platform for development and programming and can be used to incorporate fingerprint authentication into applications on standalone PCs and web-based and client-server applications. Further, this SDK supports many fingerprint readers and operating systems, including Windows and Linux, for a large amount of plug-in flexibility.

Documentation included a web-based manual with several clickable links. We found this manual to be easy to navigate with very specific titling for the links.

Bayometrics provides free email technical support as a first line of troubleshooting. If a problem cannot be solved through email, then phone or chat support is provided.

Also available are many fee-based options ranging from case-by-case to custom development support.
At a price of $180 for five licenses, we find this product to be a good value for the money. This tool can be very useful in helping companies add biometrics to their already existing applications, which offers a much lower overall cost.
