Canadian woman accused of harassing adults, minors using RAT

A Canadian woman was arrested on suspicion of using a remote administration tool (RAT) to spy on and harass adults and minors. Valery Gignac, 27, was charged with four counts related to unauthorized computer use and computer data mischief, CBC News reported this week.

Gignac allegedly used a botnet to infect and take control of several computers, in some instances eavesdropping on victims through their webcams, and in others, posting videos of the interactions online. Police also said she would taunt her victims, some of them minors, by interacting with them through their computer and playing pornography on their screens.

A resident of Quebec, Gignac, who was allegedly the owner of a hacking forum with over 35,000 members, was released on bail Wednesday under the condition that she wouldn't use a computer or go online preceding her June court date, CBC News said.
