Clients of Albuquerque food bank at risk for ID theft
A laptop containing the personal information of tens of thousands of clients was stolen from an Albuquerque food bank recently.How many victims? 36,000.
What type of personal information? Addresses, birth dates and Social Security numbers.
What was the response? The food bank is sending letters in English and Spanish to all clients over the past three years with current addresses regarding the identity theft risk.
Details: The food bank's executive director, David Whiteley, said there's no indication the client information is being misused so far.
The food bank said it keeps client information including Social Security cards, state driver's licenses, Mexican identification cards and other forms of identification to track clients.
