Company news: 2013 ends with new hires and acquisitions in the industry

»Eddie Schwartz (left) has joined Verizon Enterprise Solutions as the head of its security and cyber intelligence practice. Schwartz, who most recently served as CISO at RSA, the security division of EMC, will help Verizon accelerate its innovation and integration of advanced security service solutions. In the role, he will also oversee Verizon's cyber forensics investigative and research team and be responsible for the company's annual “Data Breach Investigations Report.”

»Nick Son has joined the Coalfire Federal division of Coalfire Systems as managing director of the Washington, D.C. office. Coalfire is a Louisville, Colo.-based IT governance, risk and compliance firm, and Son will oversee the federal division's growing client base of commercial service providers and government agencies seeking guidance on federal requirements and cloud strategy management. 

»Oracle has acquired Bitzer Mobile, a Sunnyvale, Calif.-based provider of mobile application management solutions. With the deal, Redwood Shores, Calif.-based Oracle, a leading software corporation, expects the startup to grow its portfolio of Fusion Middleware products. Bitzer will also serve as core part of Oracle's mobile security strategy.

»Trustwave has acquired Application Security, a data security provider formerly headquartered in New York. Chicago-based Trustwave, a compliance solutions and information security provider, aims to improve its services by taking on Application Security's automated database security scanning technologies.
»Jeff Erramouspe has been named CEO of Spanning Cloud Apps, an Austin, Texas-based provider of software-as-a-service (SaaS) data protection solutions. Prior to the promotion, Erramouspe served as chief revenue officer at Spanning. The company created Spanning Backup, a cloud-based backup and recovery solution for enterprises managing data through Google Apps

»HyTrust has acquired HighCloud Security, a Mountain View, Calif.-based cloud encryption and key management software firm.  With the deal, cloud security automation firm HyTrust, which is also headquartered in Mountain View, expects to offer customers flexibility in addressing security, compliance and data privacy requirements in all cloud environments. 

»David Mattos (right) has joined Easy Solutions, a Sunrise, Fla.-based fraud protection company, as vice president of sales for the U.S. and Canada. In the role, Mattos will be responsible for the effectiveness of the sales force at the firm, as well as securing new partnership opportunities. Prior to joining Easy Solutions, he was a division sales leader at RSA, where he helped the company establish and grow its identity protection and verification business. Mattos brings more than 20 years of senior-level sales experience in the technology space to the role.
