Company news: Appthority’s new CEO and Catbird’s new CTO

»Paul Stich (left) has joined Appthority, a San Francisco-based app risk management provider, as CEO and a member of its board. He  will continue Appthority's development of its app risk and policy management solution. Previously, he was president and CEO of Dasient, an internet security firm that Twitter acquired in early 2012. Prior to that, Stich was president and CEO of Counterpane Internet Security, which was acquired by British Telecom in 2006.  

»Randal Asay has joined Catbird, a Scotts Valley, Calif.-based virtualization and cloud security provider, as CTO. Asay, the former director of infrastructure engineering at Walmart, will be central to the growth of Catbird's first software-defined security solution, called vSecurity. At Walmart, Asay was responsible for securing data and operations for the global company, where he built a secure ecommerce platform on virtual infrastructure that supported billions of dollars in business.

»Lookout, a San Francisco-based mobile security firm, has secured $55 million in funding led by telecommunications company Deutsche Telekom. In addition, Qualcomm Ventures, the venture capital arm of Qualcomm, and venture capital firms Greylock Partners and Mithril Capital Management, also invested in Lookout, along with investors Accel PartnersAndreessen HorowitzIndex Ventures and Khosla Ventures. With the financing, Lookout plans to continue its international expansion, move into the enterprise realm and invest in security beyond mobile initiatives.

»Paul Paget has joined Pwnie Express, a Boston-based penetration testing and network vulnerability assessment firm, as CEO. He will drive the company's growth strategy and focus on building its position in the remote security intelligence market. Prior, he served as CEO of Savant Protection, an infrastructure and industrial control system security firm, where he remains on the board. Paget brings more than 30 years of experience in leadership positions at technology companies.

»Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney, a Pittsburgh-based law firm, has expanded with the launch of its cyber security and data protection practice group. Shareholders Jack Tomarchio (right), Matthew Meade and Sue Friedberg will lead the practice. Tomarchio is a former intelligence officer for the DHS, while Meade organized Buchanan's data privacy and security group. Friedberg has served as the firm's associate general counsel, and also leads Buchanan in its own data security compliance efforts.

»Allan Manville has joined Livingstone, a global software asset management (SAM) service provider, as the head of enterprise sales for EMEA. In the role, Manville will be responsible for the company's sales across the region, where he will focus on the firm's managed service offering. Prior, Manville managed Adobe's license and compliance team throughout northern Europe.
