»Michael Brown (left), a retired U.S. Army colonel, has joined Deloitte's federal technology risk practice as a senior manager. In his new role, Brown will be tasked with creating and driving risk management and cybersecurity strategies, and will work with customers in the federal government. He previously served as chief information security officer of the Federal Aviation Administration and chief information officer of the Army National Guard.
»Accuvant, maker of research and assessment, risk and compliance management and technology solutions, has acquired Ciphent, a Baltimore-based provider of strategic security consulting and secure development solutions. The deal will expand Accuvant's presence to the mid-Atlantic in the United States, Europe and Asia-Pacific.
»Webroot, an internet security firm, has opened an office in Leidschendam, the Netherlands. The company's Dutch management team of Jeroen Vroemen and Peter Lindeman will lead the office, which opened in response to the company's growth in the Benelux market.

»Qualys, provider of security risk and compliance management solutions, has acquired Nemean Networks to bolster its research capabilities into intrusion and malware detection. Nemean's technology was built at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and resulted in four patents.
»NitroSecurity, provider of SIEM solutions, has acquired the security business of LogMatrix, maker of risk-based assessment and correlation technologies. In addition, NitroSecurity has secured $6 million in Series B venture capital funding.
