FireKeepers investigates potential breach, replaces POS equipment

Michigan-based FireKeepers Casino Hotel is investigating a possible security incident involving its point-of-sale (POS) systems, according to a notification posted on the website.

Details are sparse as the investigation – aided by independent IT forensic experts – is ongoing, but FireKeepers has taken some actions to address a potential incident, including replacing its POS devices.

“While the investigation continues, we took the additional step of installing new point of sale equipment to ensure our customers can use their credit and debit cards safely at the casino, hotel, and any restaurants or stores on Firekeepers' property,” the statement said.

FireKeepers indicated that any information submitted through its website should be secure, since it uses a completely different system, and added that any cards used to obtain cash from ATMs are also not at risk.
