A former Yandex employee who stole the source code as well as critical algorithms for the company's search engine site and requested a low-ball $29,000 that he intended to use to fund his own venture has been sentenced to two years in prison, according to a report in Hacker News.
Citing an account of the theft in Kommersant, a Russian publication, Hacker News said the software, dubbed Arcadia, stolen by Dmitry Korobov were worth as much as $15 million. Yandex is the largest search engine in Russia, well ahead of Google. Korobov was picked up by the Federal Security Service (FSB) before making a sale and in a December court hearing the software thief was sentenced to a two-year prison term for the possession and distribution of commercial secrets, the report said.
