GTAGaming breach compromised nearly 200K users

GTAGaming, a fan forum for the popular game “Grand Theft Auto,” was hacked, compromising the data of nearly 200,000 users.

Officials said usernames, email addresses, hashed passwords and any other types of personal data saved to profiles may have been compromised according to an Aug. 23 GTAGaming blog post. Dates of birth, IP addresses and website activity were also compromised according to HaveIbeenPwned.

“We will be moving the account database into a more secure authentication system, removing all trace of the vBulletin forum software, and until then will be keeping a close eye to prevent any further compromises,” the GTAGaming post said.

The forum has since been permanently closed and any accounts that aren't updated within the next couple of weeks will be deleted. This is one of several gaming forum breaches that have occurred recently although it is unclear if it is related to others.
