More than 1,000 Minnesota-based healthcare workers' personal information might have been compromised after an attack on a medical center's employee database.
Olmsted Medical Center announced on Monday that its electronic database was unlawfully accessed. The center doesn't believe patients' information or employees' protected health information was compromised, according to a local news station.
Employees were notified of the potential risk to their information and instructed to change their logins for online financial accounts. Additionally, the medical center is arranging for a year of free identity theft protection for employees, their spouses/partners and dependents. The Internal Revenue Service and the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Cyber Crimes division are investigating the breach.
Multiple health organizations have suffered breaches this month, including a Texas health system and Wisconsin health insurer.
