House passes two cyber security bills

Earlier this week, The House of Representatives passed two bills which aim to strengthen cyber security in the nation.

One bill, backed by lawmakers via a voice vote on Monday, aims to thwart critical infrastructure attacks through the development of strategic plan outlined by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), a report from The Hill's blog revealed.

That day, the outlet also reported on another measure by the House to enhance security of consumer data – a bill requiring federal agencies to certify the security of their “public websites storing personally identifying information of individuals,” the blog said. The legislation was also passed Monday by voice vote.

The website security legislation was sponsored by Rep. Kerry Bentivolio (R-Mich.), while the critical infrastructure protection bill was introduced by Rep. Patrick Meehan (R-Pa.).
