Illinois Department of Corrections data breach hits more than 1,000 employees

The Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) is notifying more than 1,000 employees that their personal information was included in a response to a civilian Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request.

How many victims? More than 1,000.

What type of personal information? Names, ranks, salaries, job duties, and Social Security numbers.

What happened? Personal information on more than 1,000 IDOC employees was included in a response to a civilian Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request.

What was the response? IDOC investigated the incident, and is reviewing its internal policies and procedures to ensure a similar incident does not occur in the future. All impacted employees are being notified.

Details: IDOC was made aware of the incident on Aug. 14. According to reports, employees with Dixon Correctional Center and Lawrence Correctional Center were among those affected by the incident.
