Laptop stolen from employee contained data on Pioneer Bank customers

New York-based Pioneer Bank is notifying an undisclosed number of customers that their personal information was on a laptop that was stolen from an employee.

How many victims? Undisclosed.

What type of personal information? Names, addresses, Social Security numbers, and account and debit card numbers.

What happened? A laptop stolen from an employee contained the information.

What was the response? Pioneer Bank is conducting additional monitoring on customer accounts. All impacted individuals are being notified, and offered a year of free credit monitoring services.

Details: A letter sent to customers states the theft occurred on Jan. 26. There is no indication that the personal information has been used maliciously.

Quote: “We notified police immediately upon learning of the theft, and we continue to assist police with their criminal investigation,” according to a Pioneer Bank statement emailed to SCMagazine.com on Tuesday. “Due to the fact that this is an ongoing investigation, we are unable to provide any further information at this time.”
