Malicious insider arrested in West Virgina
Jameelah Jossiah, 24, a former flu clinic billing clerk at the Kanawha-Charleston Health Department in West Virginia copied down personal information of patients and used it to make a $400 purchase at a local Wal-Mart.How many victims? When police searched Jossiah’s house they found a handwritten list of about 14 victims.
What type of personal information? Names, social security numbers, addresses and other unspecified personal information.
What was the response? As a precautionary measure, the agency is alerting all 11,000 people who had flu shots during the month of October 2008. Jossiah was arrested last Friday and was released on a $10,000 bond. A preliminary hearing is set for Thursday.
Quote: "I don't believe she had the ability to copy down a lot of information because she was being closely supervised," health Board President Brenda Isaac said. "We feel this is limited, but we don't want to take any chances, so we're alerting all people who had flu shots."
