AT&T buys VeriSign division

AT&T on Thursday announced it is acquiring the global security consulting business of VeriSign to complement the telcom giant's suite of network-based cybersecurity services. The practice helps Fortune 500 firms meet compliance requirements, identify vulnerabilities, respond to attacks and reduce overall risk, according to a news release. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. The move by VeriSign aligns with a 2007 decision to concentrate on its core internet infrastructure business and divest other units. — DK

SecureWorks, provider of managed security services (MSS), has completed its acquisition of VeriSign's MSS business, the company announced Tuesday. The move by VeriSign aligns with a 2007 decision to concentrate on its core internet infrastructure business and divest other units. The deal, meanwhile, allows SecureWorks to bolster its hold as one of the security industry's few remaining managed services pure-plays. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. - DK
