McAfee and Symantec join Cyber Threat Alliance

McAfee and Symantec announced their decision to join the Cyber Threat Alliance earlier today.

Created in May by Fortinet and Palo Alto Networks, the alliance aims to help industry entities coordinate against cybercrime and criminals, especially with regards to indicators of compromise, according to a release.

Instead of malware sample sharing, the alliance focuses more on threat intelligence. Shared information could cover zero-day vulnerabilities, botnet command and control server information and mobile threats, among others.

“We must match our adversaries' aggressive drive to innovate with our own deeper commitment to collaborate,” said Vincent Weafer, senior vice president for McAfee Labs, part of Intel Security, in a release. note that "as an industry, we need to understand and be poised to react to the latest complex and multidimensional attacks of today and tomorrow.”
