No love for IT

If you're like me, and you've been wondering when NBC's hit sitcom "The Office" is going to devote an episode to some IT security screw-up at the Dundler Mifflin paper company in Scranton, Pa., another British product may come through sooner.

There's been no official announcement yet, but the hit U.K. show "The IT Crowd" has been impressing NBC execs and may find its way on the fall lineup here in the States.

The sitcom depicts a motley trio of IT staffers relegated to the unglamorous confines of a company basement while the rest of the employees live a much more enjoyable 9-to-5 experience. Everybody at the company hates the ITers - think "Saturday Night Live's" recurring skit "Nick Burns: The Company Computer Guy" - despite relying on them on a daily basis.

Of course, while everybody loves to hate the IT support staff at any company, it's hard to imagine that they'd be sequestered in a basement considering their importance across all aspects of the corporate infrastructure.

But this does sound funny.

Of course, if no network picks up the show, we may have to go back to waiting for "The Office's" Michael to accidentally infect the network with malware.

I'm laughing already thinking about the possibilities.
