Beth Cobert, acting director of the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) was nominated Tuesday by President Obama to become the agency's permanent leader.
Cobert took over the position after Katherine Archuleta resigned in July following the data breach into OPM's computer system that exposed the personal information of more than 21 million current and former federal workers. Previously, Cobert worked at McKinsey and Co. and she also serves as deputy director for management at the Office of Management and Budget (OMB).
House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz (R-UT), who has been a vocal opponent of OPM's management post breach, gave an upbeat appraisal of Cobert.
“I am pleased the president has opted for a credible selection this time rather than a political one,” he said in a release.
