Oregon’s Health CO-OP laptop stolen, about 15K members notified

Oregon's Health CO-OP has notified approximately 15,000 current and former members that a laptop containing personal information was stolen.

How many victims? Approximately 15,000 current and former members were notified.

What type of personal information? Member and dependent names, addresses, dates of birth, health plan and identification numbers, and Social Security numbers.

What happened? A laptop containing personal information of Oregon's Health CO-OP clients was stolen.

What was the response? Law enforcement has been notified. A cybersecurity firm was hired to review the security of systems and to provide recommendations for reinforcing security and technology protocols. All potentially impacted individuals are being notified and offered a free year of credit monitoring and resolution services.

Details: The laptop – which was password protected – was stolen on April 3. During the notification process, certain members received letters with another person's name due to a system error. That error has been corrected and new letters with the correct information are being sent out.

Quote: “At this time, there is no evidence that there has been any use or attempted use of the information exposed in this incident,” according to a notification posted to the Oregon's Health CO-OP website.
