Window, Samba admins, mark your calendars for 'Badlock Bug' patch
Researchers warn Window and Samba admins to mark their calendars for “Badlock" patch.
Researchers are warning administrators and anyone responsible for Windows and Samba servers to mark their patch calendars for April 12, 2016, when researchers plan to disclose a crucial security bug dubbed “Badlock Bug” that they are “pretty sure" will spawn "exploits soon after we publish all relevant information,” according toBadlock.org.
Administrators should be prepared to patch all affected systems once the vulnerability is disclosed, the site said.
The bug was discovered by international Samba Core Team member Stefan Metzmacher who also works at the German IT systems integrator SerNet.
Metzmacher has reported the bug to Microsoft and has been working closely with the firm to help fix the problem.
Due to the nature of the vulnerability, no detailed information will be provided prior to the release of the fixes, according to a SerNet notice.
