A U.S. Senate Commerce Committee on Wednesday passed the Cybersecurity Act of 2010. Originally introduced in April 2009 by Sen. John Rockefeller, D-W.Va., and Sen. Olympia Snowe, R-Maine, the bill is designed to address the nation's vulnerability to cybercrime, global espionage and digital attacks. The proposed legislation has undergone four revisions so far. “Our future is literally being stolen from us,” Rockefeller said, according to a news release from the committee. “The status quo is not sustainable. We need a new model for the 21st century.” The proposed bill now moves to the full Senate for a vote. — AM
