Samsung will now release monthly security patches

Samsung will issue monthly Android patches through agreements with carriers and partners around the world.

The news comes days after critical vulnerabilities, including Stagefright, were found to impact Android systems.

“With the recent security issues, we have been rethinking the approach to getting security updates to our devices in a more timely manner,” the South Korean company stated in a blog post. “Since software is constantly exploited in new ways, developing a fast response process to deliver security patches to our devices is critical to keep them protected.”

The new process will fast -track security patches over the air whenever vulnerabilities are discovered, about once per month.

Samsung device owners currently rely on their carriers to push out patches at uncoordinated times. The new approach requires collaboration with carriers. Details on specific models and timelines will be released soon.
