Security holds its value despite offshore trend

It's still worth having an infosec certification, according to US research.

The transfer of IT jobs offshore to places such as India has forced down salaries in the U.S., but some skills - including info security - are managing to buck the trend.

According to new research from Foote Partners, which looks at the value of having a professional certification in different areas of IT, many skills have lost value as a result of the offshore trend.

The prime exception is the Project Management Professional certifiation, which can still add 16 percent to a person's salary.

After that come security certifications, which have continued to achieve premium pay growth during the last three years. The Certified Information Systems Auditor registered the highest increase of all certifications duting 2003, while CISSP, GIAC Certified Windows Administrator and GIAC Certified Unix Adminstrator also showed strong growth.
