The convergence of communications, VoIP and multimedia systems (video conferencing, webinars, peer-to-peer) has increased the demand for engineers capable of designing and managing systems.

What it takes
VoIP engineers are in great demand due to the availability of IP-based telephony systems and hosted multitenant IP telephony systems. Entry-level positions are available for pros with up to three years of experience. Senior positions require more than three years, as well as certs.  

Compensation
VoIP engineer: $60k to $85k; senior communications engineer: $95k to $125k.
