Tesla quickly fixes security flaw in Tesla S

Tesla Motors said it has already patched the flaw that allowed researchers from the cyber security firms Lookout and Cloudflare to turn off and stop a Tesla S when it is driving at slow speed.

Kevin Mahaffey, Lookout's chief technology officer, and Marc Rogers, principal security researcher at Cloudflare told the The Financial Times  that they were able to gain access to the Tesla's system via a laptop while inside the car. The end result was the car's electronics were shut down and the emergency brake popped stopping the vehicle. A second test conducted at higher speed had the same results except the brake did not engage.

The researchers will go into further details during DEF CON in Las Vegas on Aug. 7.

With this revelation Tesla joins Fiat Chrysler in having to respond to security breaches where a driver can lose control of a vehicle to a hacker.
