UGA computer network hacked, Georgia Tech student indicted

A Georgia Tech (GT) student has been indicted after allegedly hacking into the University of Georgia (UGA) computer network prior to a rivalry football game and posting a message on the UGA online calendar, the Athens Banner-Herald reported Wednesday.

Ryan Pickren was charged with felony computer trespass for allegedly posting “Get Ass Kicked by GT” to the UGA calendar on Nov. 27, two days prior to the match-up, the report indicates. The message was discovered and removed roughly an hour later.

Pickren was indicted on Dec. 16 after a prosecutor submitted evidence to the grand jury, according to the report. A bench warrant was issued for his arrest on Dec. 22 – he surrendered the next day and was later released after posting a $5,000 bond.

Pickren could serve a maximum 15 years in prison if convicted, the report indicates.
