Securing the Most Vulnerable Data in your Organisation - on Mobile Devices

By the very fact that they're on the move, easy to lose and rarely within the grasp of your IT department, laptops and PDAs represent one of the most challenging battlefronts in your war against data loss and theft.

Your mobile users are employed for a variety of skills - to treat patients, dig up roads, repair gas mains etc. They're rarely IT savvy and certainly not security experts. Yet, more than 75 per cent of enterprises leave responsibility for security in the hands of the user.

Mobile devices are increasingly portable, capable and prolific - and they're nearly always carrying sensitive customer information. The loss of a device is not only a nuisance for the worker trying to perform his or her duties, it could be a catastrophic breach of your corporate security policies.

This webcast will provide advice and real-life examples so you can protect yourself where your data is most vulnerable - on mobile devices.

Know your Roles: Log Monitoring at the Application Level

You've rolled out hundreds of applications, from packaged ERP to legacy to web. Perhaps you've also installed identity and access-control systems on top of these. Now you have hundreds of user roles accessing multiple systems and generating millions of events per day. How will you connect the dots and determine which events are risky? For example, will you know when a sales employee accesses revenue data within your home grown financial app in the middle of the night and then prints out a large number of files? Do you have a monitoring system in place to catch events across multiple systems and devices?

    Join the webcast to learn:

  • How application monitoring allows you to connect the dots across systems and assess business risk
  • How to manage users getting information from outside of the scope of their role or group membership
  • Why custom applications do not have to be an easy target for malicious insiders

Data Protection and Management: Knowing Where the Leaks Are

There are many different ways in which business-critical data can leave an organisation. Recent news reports have outlined numerous ways information can fall into the wrong hands, from leaving a laptop in the back of a taxi, to an employee downloading a customer list onto their iPod, to a break-in at a corporate headquarters. So how can businesses identify and manage these areas of vulnerability?

This webcast will investigate why large data breaches are still occurring on a daily basis and offer advice on how they can be avoided. The webcast will examine:

  • What are the major data leaks within the organisation and how can they be effectively plugged?
  • How can organisations ensure they know where their business critical data is and who has access to it?
  • What questions need to be answered when developing a data security policy?

    Understanding PCI Compliance

In the past twelve months, there have been countless examples of how easy it often is for criminals to steal credit or debit card details from retailers, banks and merchants, either by technical means or using social engineering. Furthermore, growing numbers of headlines relaying stories of the loss of thousands, or even millions of credit card details, have left consumers feeling anxious about the way retailers and banks protect their personal information.

In response to consumer worries, the cost of fraud, and increasing amounts of bad press, Visa and MasterCard have developed and mandated the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS). PCI DSS details security control requirements for organisations processing credit and debit card transactions. As of June 2006, all merchants, acquiring banks and third party service providers that accept or process card transactions must be compliant with the requirements of the standard. This includes all retailers accepting card payments.

The repercussions of non-compliance with the standard can be severe but achieving compliance with PCI DSS is more than just reading a few guidance documents and 'doing it'. Depending on the technical and cultural environment at the organisation, a PCI DSS remediation programme could mean a huge programme of work, touching many aspects of your business and requiring time and effort from everyone to get it right.
