Avenda Systems, maker of network identity and access policy solutions, has teamed up with Great Bay Software to create combined endpoint discovery and network security offerings. The interoperability links Great Bay's Endpoint Profiling, a real-time inventory and auditing database for all authenticating and nonextensible authentication protocol services, with Avenda's eTIPS networkaccess control platform.
Layer 7 Technologies, provider of extensible markup language (XML) security and networking, has appointed Ed Koepfler as president and CEO. His role will be to further the Vancouver, British Columbia company's push into new markets and development of its XML security and service- and web-oriented architecture technologies. Koepfler previously held leadership roles at Clearsight Systems and Icarian.

VASCO, a leading authentication provider for the financial sector, has acquired Logico Smart Card Solutions for approximately $1.5 million in cash. The purchase of the Vienna-based Logico, an authentication storage specialist, allows VASCO to expand its presence in the smart card and public key infrastructure markets. Logico has customers in the healthcare, manufacturing and government sectors.
