A hacker infiltrates “The Hills”

If you're a big fan of "The Hills" - c'mon admit it, I know you can't turn away from mindless MTV pseudo reality drama - then you've been following the saga of the L.C. sex tape.

You see, L.C., real name Lauren Conrad, is a star of "The Hills." In the past few episodes, viewers have learned of a rumor involving an alleged sex tape L.C. created with once-boyfriend Jason Wahler (of "Laguna Beach" fame).

The rumors have helped make "The Hills" the top rated MTV show. Apparently, hackers are watching, too.

I'll explain.

The blog of rumor-spreading suspect Heidi Montag (whose relationship with L.C. dissolved in last year's "Hills" season) featured an interesting post earlier this week.

It was titled "Me and Spencer (her boyfriend) Did Spread The False Rumors about Lauren's Sex Tape."

Finally, readers thought, we know the truth. Not so fast. Hours after, Heidi raced to tell anyone who'd listen that the post was bogus. It was the work of an evil hacker, she said.

"We have hired a web guy to find out who did it and where the source is, so we will get to the bottom of this," Heidi told Access Hollywood.

Meanwhile, her beau told reporters, "Right now they're trying to track down whose IP it was. We got Jack Bauer on it."

Riiight, Spence. Because hackers are stupid, they're terrible at covering their tracks and there's no way they can spoof their IP address.

But don't worry, Heidi, the web guy is here to help. Is he related to the cable guy?

Is it just me, or do you also get such a kick out of listening to reality TV stars talk about web forensic analysis.

Of course, if Heidi really did spread the rumor and then decided to rescind her confession by blaming it on some Web 2.0 style attack, all the power to her. That would be very smart of her.

On second though, not likely. I mean, have you seen the show?
