Acer ecommerce customer information compromised

An unauthorized individual gained access to certain Acer Service Corporation ecommerce customer's payment information.

How many victims? 34,500

What type of information?: Names, addresses, card numbers, expiration dates and three-digit security codes were all compromised in the breach.

What happened?  Officials said the information of customers who used the Acer ecommerce site between May 12, 2015 and April 28, 2016, may have been compromised when an unauthorized individual gained access to the data.

What was the response? Immediate action was taken to identify and remediate the security flaw that enabled the incident. Outside security experts were called in to assist. The issue has also been reported to federal law enforcement and to the firm's credit card payment processor.

Quote: “We value the trust you place in us,” Acer Vice President, Customer Service Mark Groveunder said in the Notice of Breach. “We regret this incident occurred, and we will be working hard to enhance our security.”
