Adobe has added a beta sandbox feature to its Flash Player running in the Mozilla Firefox browser, the company announced Monday. Similar to the "Protected Mode" feature that was added to Reader X, the functionality in Flash will force operations to be run inside a confined environment, known as a sandbox, in which certain functions are prohibited. The functionality will help prevent attackers from writing files or installing malware on a victim's computer. "Like the Adobe Reader X sandbox, Flash Player will establish a low-integrity, highly restricted process that must communicate through a broker to limit its privileged activities," a blog post said. Such technology already is available in the Google Chrome browser.
