A 24-year-old Swedish man who is the alleged co-creator of the infamous BlackShades remote administration tool (RAT) has plead not guilty in a federal court in Manhattan.
Alex Yucel faces two counts of computer hacking, one count of conspiring to commit access device fraud, one count of access device fraud and one count of aggravated identity theft, according to Reuters.
Originally arrested in Moldova in November, Yucel is accused of being the ring leader behind the group that sold the RAT to hackers for prices ranging from $40 to $50. He faces up to 17 years in prison if convicted.
In May, an FBI-led investigation involving massive cooperation from law enforcement agencies in 17 countries led to nearly 100 arrests of individuals that used or distributed the malware.
