Anonymous may be targeting educational institutions in ‘OpSafeEdu’

The Center for Internet Security (CIS) has issued an alert warning about the potential for an increase in attacks on educational institutions.

In the alert issued on Friday, CIS said that 'OpSafeEdu,' the latest operation allegedly organized by members of the loosely knit hacker collective Anonymous, may result in attacks on private and public institutions.

In a message released on Thursday, purportedly from Anonymous, the group calls the lack of security on educational websites a violation of student liberties, and also touches on issues involving student abuse, including pedophilia.

According to the CIS alert, in March, Anonymous said it was bringing awareness to security deficiencies after it compromised a private university server and then released the information that was obtained.
