Baton Rouge police server accessed, 50K files reportedly released

A hacker reportedly accessed and publicly posted 50,000 records from the Baton Rouge Police Department to protest the police killing of local resident Alton Sterling.

The Daily Dot is reporting that a hacker going by the name of @0x2Taylor was able to hack into the police department's servers and leak the records which contained names, addresses, emails and phone numbers. Exactly to whom this information belongs was not made clear.

The Daily Dot said it confirmed that the database was posted  with an outside cybersecurity firm, but noted the Baton Rouge IT services department would not confirm the illegal entry took place. @0x2Taylor said the act was done to protest the killing of Sterling, who was black, by a Baton Rouge police officer.

The hacker used legitimate log in credentials he found online for the server that was accessed, according to the The Daily Dot.
