Belgian minister of defence stresses investing in cyber-security

Belgium's minister of defence, Steven Vandeput has stated the importance of investing in technology for national security.

Vandeput was briefed on cyber-defence at the Tallinn-based NATO Cooperative Cyber-defence Centre of Excellence (NATO CCD COE) that Belgium is set to join. The Kingdom of Belgium joined the NATO CCD COE in late 2015 as a sponsoring nation.

“Fast modernisation of the Belgian military means we are becoming increasingly technological. Therefore investing in cyber-security is essential. The expertise at the NATO Cooperative Cyber-defence Centre of Excellence offers the opportunity to address these new challenges more efficiently,” Vandeput said.

“The Centre is looking forward to Belgium joining us and welcomes Belgian colleagues. International cooperation is in the heart of cyber-security for all nations,”said LTC Jens van Laak, deputy director of the NATO CCD COE.
