Brad Pitt suicide scare used to steal Facebook user credentials

Proving there are few roads too low for a hacker to travel, a Facebook scam has arisen spinning off the false reports that actor and former Angelina Jolie husband Brad Pitt has committed suicide.

Malwarebytes pointed to fake Fox News or NBC News Facebook posts that claim the Moneyball actor had taken his own life. Anyone sucked in would be redirected to a Facebook app page that requested permission to access their user credentials. The cybercriminal did close the deal by then sending the victim to a page containing one paragraph of text explaining how Pitt allegedly died. This being either gunshot wound or overdose.

Malwarebytes is recommending anyone who inadvertently clicked on one of these items change their Facebook password and to delete it if shared on their page.
