Breach exposes data of 1k county workers, officials give no word on cause

The sensitive information of current and former county employees in Ohio was accessible to cyber intruders.

How many victims? 1,152

What type of personal information? Social Security numbers and other personal information.

What happened? On March 21, the Allen County Information Technology Department discovered employees' information was exposed, though officials are yet to confirm how the breach happened.

What was the response? The county provided one-year of identity protection services for all affected employees, who were notified via phone and mailed letters.

Details: No financial, retirement or health information was exposed in the breach.

Quote: “There's nothing to hide,” Jay Begg, Allen County commissioner, said. “It's just that we want to be sure employees' identities and information are protected before we tell everybody what happened.”
