Documents reveal NSA plans to map every internet connected device in the world

The National Security Agency (NSA) is looking to map every single internet connected device in the world, including smartphones, tablets and computers, according to a Sunday report by The Intercept.

In the report, The Intercept linked to documents provided by NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden, which state that Treasure Map is an initiative “for building a near real-time, interactive map of the global internet” that could enable a variety of missions, including computer attack and exploit planning.

Treasure Map can be installed and used by employees of the “Five Eyes” intelligence alliance, which includes agencies in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the United States, according to The Intercept report.

The Treasure Map initiative was originally reported on in November 2013 by The New York Times.
