File-sharing site ShareBeast shuttered by DoJ

The Department of Justice (DoJ) Friday closed down the music and entertainment file-sharing site ShareBeast.com and a sister site, albumjams.com.

While an official count of clients is unavailable, the FBI claimed ShareBeast was the largest U.S.-based music piracy site. According to reports, millions of users downloaded songs and TV files without compensation from the services. The site's Facebook page has 226.5K followers.

The DoJ and FBI's seizure notice now appears on the domain stating an investigation into criminal copyright infringement is ongoing. The DoJ claimed the sites distributed  "a massive library of popular albums and tracks" before their release.

“This is a huge win for the music community and legitimate music services," said Cary Sherman, chairman and CEO of the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), in a statement. "ShareBeast operated with flagrant disregard for the rights of artists and labels while undermining the legal marketplace."
