Israel allegedly spied on U.S. communications for Iranian deal details

Israel allegedly conducted an espionage campaign on the U.S. to learn the details of President Obama's possible deal to curb Iran's nuclear program.

According to The Wall Street Journal, Israel was able to eavesdrop on closed-door meetings and obtain confidential information from briefings, informants and diplomatic contacts in Europe. Later, the country shared its findings with U.S. lawmakers in an effort to dismantle support for the deal.

One unnamed U.S. government official said that more resources are spent trying to thwart Israeli spying than the efforts of any other American ally. An Israeli official refuted this claim in a statement to the paper.

Another anonymous source told the paper that these recent spying allegations should come as no surprise, considering that U.S. intelligence agencies helped Israelis build a system to intercept Iranian communications.
