Virginia to establish state-level information sharing organization

April 21, 2015

Virginia is establishing a state-level Information Sharing and Analysis Organization (ISAO), Governor Terry McAuliffe announced on Monday.

The initiative marks the first ever state-level ISAO in the U.S., according to McAuliffe, who said the organization is being founded to build on efforts by the Virginia Cyber Security Commission, Virginia Cyber Security Partnership, and the Virginia Information Technologies Agency, as well as other partners in the Commonwealth.

“With Governor McAuliffe's leadership of both the National Governors Association (NGA) Homeland Security and Public Safety Committee, and the NGA Resource Center for State Cybersecurity, it just makes sense for Virginia to leverage our existing and future information sharing efforts by creating the first state-level ISAO,” Karen Jackson, Virginia Secretary of Technology, said Monday at the RSA Conference in San Francisco.

Earlier this month Virginia passed an electronic identity management law for verifying identities during digital transactions.
