Wikimedia Foundation lists removed links under ‘right to be forgotten’

The Wikimedia Foundation, the nonprofit group which runs Wikipedia, issued a notice today detailing which of its posts were hidden from Google's search results under a European court's “right to be forgotten” ruling.

Of the 328,000 requested link removals, more than 50 related to content on Wikipedia, according to a release. Wikimedia explained that it only knew of these link removal requests because Google sent it a notification. Search engines are not legally obligated to alert companies of their link removals.

The Wikipedia pages hidden from Google's search results include one about Italian gangster Renato Vallanzasca, as well as one on convicted Irish criminal Gerry Hutch.

Wikimedia plans to maintain a page where notices of removed links will be kept.
