Clinton server possibly probed by hackers: Report

October 9, 2015

According to a published report, presidential candidate Hillary Clinton's private email server was probed by several hacking teams from China, Germany and South Korea after she stepped down as Secretary of State in 2013.

The Associated Press is reporting that the attacks were defeated by the server's on-board security software, but that during an earlier period Clinton's server was left undefended. The AP cited a letter by Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., chairman of the Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee, to Victor Nappe, CEO of the security firm SECNAP, saying that the server was unprotected between June and October 2013. SECNAP is the firm that handled protecting the server from October 2013 onward.

There is no indication if the attacks specifically targeted Clinton's data or were just generic, random attempts that hit many servers every day.

An email to Clinton's campaign office was not returned.
