Chinese gov’t drops 10 Apple products from approved list

Chinese government workers won't be watching Netflix or downloading apps on iPads any time soon — the Chinese government has dropped it and nine more Apple products from its approved procurement list, according to Bloomberg.

The government, which last month nixed Symantec and Kaspersky products, dropped the iPad, iPad Mini, MacBook Air and other products from its July list, although all 10 had appeared on the list in June.

China and the U.S. have traded barbs regarding cyber spying and Chinese officials have protested the U.S.'s move to charge five members of the Chinese military with espionage.

Dropping Apple is seen as China's latest effort to ease its reliance on U.S. technology in favor of domestic brands and to curb potential spying indicated by Snowden revelations. Some Apple products are still on an approved list, the Bloomberg report said.
