Cisco unveils firewalls, service for hybrid office management

Cisco has announced the new 1RU Secure Firewall 3100 Series, which prioritizes data security for workers returning to offices and enhanced corporate resource management, and the Smart Workspaces service with various in-office functions for hybrid workers, Network World reports.

Spanning the 3110, 3120, 3130 and 3140 range of devices with increasing throughputs up to 45Gbps, the 3100 series is designed to reduce the barrier to entry, increase VPN performance, and raise support for small branches, according to the company. The hardware features Cisco's Secure Firewall Threat Defense 7.0 adding  packet inspection and  threat-intelligence update capabilities, and Encrypted Visibility Engine providing malware classification andinference-based application identification.

Meanwhile, Smart Workspaces is available through Cisco's cloud-based DNA Spaces, which is a part of the Connected Mobile Experience technology.

Lucas Hanson, a senior product manager for Cisco DNA Spaces, said Smart Workplace is designed to make hybrid workers comfortable during the times they are working in the office, providing cloud-based location insights as well as non-cloud services for detecting available spaces. It includes an IoT gateway service for managing various IoT devices as well as 3-D mapping and Webex technology to generate room information such as occupancy and air quality.
