Snowden invited to tesify in European investigation

Edward Snowden will be invited to testify in a European investigation of the National Security Agency's surveillance tactics, according the The Hill.

A European Parliament committee voted 36-2 with one abstention to offer Snowden an opportunity to video conference into the investigation. The Civil Liberties Committee hopes his testimony could add to policy recommendations aimed at bettering European citizens' privacy and improving EU institutions' IT security.

It isn't clear whether Snowden will accept. His leaks, which started this past summer, exposed the NSA's tapping of Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany's cell phone, as well as its spying on European offices and ability to gain access to internal computer networks.

Snowden remains in Russia, where he would stay during his video testimony, but is seeking asylum in Brazil.
