Tripwire founder Wyatt Starnes passes away, Tweets indicate

Wyatt Starnes – the founder and former president and CEO of security software company Tripwire – passed away over the weekend, according to various posts on Twitter.

“I learned that my friend Wyatt Starnes (first CEO of [Tripwire] – hired me in 2000) passed away on Saturday. Very sad,” Dwayne Melancon, CTO of Tripwire, wrote in a Tweet posted on Monday.

Starnes had a roughly 30-year run in the information security industry, according to a 2007 interview by Information Security Media Group, which indicates he also cofounded the Regional Alliances for Infrastructure and Network Security (RAINS) and that he served as chairman and CEO of SignaCert.

Starnes additionally served as a member of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), Visiting Committee on Advanced Technologies (VCAT), and the Oregon Executive Council of the American Electronics Association, according to the interview.
