Critical infrastructure attacks top of mind among CISOs

Chief information security officers have been preparing for cyberattacks against critical infrastructure entities amid the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine, GCN reports. Elevated foreign state-sponsored cyberattacks against electric grids have prompted Virginia to hasten its collaboration with the private sector in threat intelligence sharing in an effort to better deal with potential cybersecurity incidents, according to Virginia CISO Michael Watson. Intelligence sharing has also been valuable in the strategy of North Dakota CISO Michael Gregg, who noted the state's Joint Security Operations Center developed with five other states. Gregg also emphasized the importance of endpoint protection across the state. Meanwhile, Fortinet Public Sector Field CISO and Vice President of Information Security Jim Richberg has highlighted the threat of ransomware groups. "These groups are cohesive. They can spend more time on research. They're faster to weaponize exploits. They're so specialized they have help desks for their affiliates and for their customers," Richberg added.
